The Institute of Contemporary Socialism was founded in Moscow on the 16th April 2001 by a group of renowned Russian scientists, public activists and political leaders. Among the founders of the Institute are: A. Podberyozkin (Chairman of All-Russia Sociopolitical Movement "Dukhovnoye Naslediye", ("Spiritual Heritage"), Doctor of historical sciences), I. Rybkin (Chairman of the Socialist Party of Russia, Doctor of political sciences), A. Galkin (leading reseach fellow of the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Academy of Natural Sciences), O. Fynko (deputy of the State Duma), B. Guseletov (vice-Secretary General of the United Social-Democratic Party), I. Konstantinov (ex-Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Russia), V. Guerasimov (professor) and others. Mr. A. Podberyozkin is the head of the Institute.
Objectives and Goals and of the Institute:
- To conduct scientific research on modern status and trends in socialist and social-democratic movement;
- To analyze internal political situation in Russia and study principal features of Russian foreign policy;
- To organize "round tables" and scientific conferences bringing to discussion actual issues of modern politics at international, all-Russian and regional levels;
- To advocate and popularize knowledge on socialism and social processes in the society;
- To create informational and analytical "Contemporary Political Russia" data base at http://www.nasledie.ru portal, free access to all politicians and sociologists provided.
The organizational structure of the Institute is aimed to provide fulfillment of the outlined objectives, involving the following departments/directions:

- Informational programs - A. Nemtchenko
- International programs - B. Guseletov
- Interaction with Federal Assembly - O. Fynko
In April-May 2001 the Institute is conducting a sequence of "round tables" under the common title: "Global processes: position of the Russian left and patriotic forces". Delegates from European, American and Asian socialist and social-democratic parties, representatives of foreign and Russian foundations, renowned Russian politicians, public activists, statesmen, scientists and businessmen will be invited to participate in the international scientific conference "Challenges of Globalization: Response of the Left Forces" in the end of June 2001.
All materials of the "round tables" are instantly processed and presented at the informational portal, published (including the newspaper "Golos" ("Voice") and delivered to correspondents by e-mail. Two monograhs are being processed to be presented the June.
The activities of the Institute are closely observed by the mass media that only in April 2001has released about 70 publications connected with them.
